Our Philosophy

Understanding Dog Behavior:

One of the largest problems in un-successful training is poor communication between dog and owner.

Dogs often misinterpret human behavior and humans misinterpret dog behavior.

Dogs communicate through a combination of sounds, facial and body movements and scent.

There are some signals used by almost all dogs, but how they are expressed will depend upon the dog's physical characteristics and personality.

A "grin' in one dog may be a greeting to humans, but a similar signal in another dog might be a warning.

It is extremely important to learn to read your own dog's signals so that you can avoid potential problems and use proper timing in training.

It's also important to understand how to communicate effectively with your dog.

It is our goal to teach you these signals and to have a positive experience while training your dog !

Private Lessons: $400.00 - 8 Week Session

We offer our course as a private lesson.We come to your home to work in the privacy and comfort of your surroundings at a mutually convenient time for both you and your dog.

Evening and weekend lessons are available.

Based on your needs our prices may vary.

Matthew Johnson

Matthew is the proud owner of Waggz & Whiskerz. Matthew is trained in Pet First Aid instruction through the Ontario Provincial Missing Animal response services. Matthew is an avid researcher in canine behavior and interactions. Matthew's professional development has included dog day care training, behavior and health training, dog/human interaction techniques, scent detection techniques and search and rescue tracking and therapy dog training. Matthew is a certified dog trainer through The Proper Pet Care Society and The Association Of Professional Pet Dog Trainers. "Seeing a dog succeed is my greatest pleasure, seeing an owner enjoy the success of their dog is even better."

Debbie Brown

Debbie Brown is a key figure in training for Waggz & Whiskerz & is a key influence in several dog programs across the GTA. Debbie is the coordinator & evaluator for our new Puppy Kindergarten and Beginner Classes. Debbie has over 20 years experience in dog training. "Spending time in training is a wonderful bonding experience that has important health benefits for you and for you dog.Training also helps your dog become a wonderful citizen who will be welcome wherever he goes and by whoever he meets". Debbie makes training time a fun play time for both you and your pup. So that everyone may have fun and a happy training experience!

Alain Gauthier

Alain Gauthier is a graduate of National K9 School for Dog Trainers, Alain has been training dogs for 12 years. "Most clients want to have a dog that will compliment their lifestyle.They want their dog to come when called, not be a nuisance, not pull on the leash, or bark constantly". A lack of communication skills and understanding of expectations are usually at the root of these problems. Alain teaches, through basic obedience, a line of communication and respect that both owner and dog can understand, as well as, basic skills to use every day. Focusing on the relationship between the customer and their dogs, Alain works in the customer's home, backyard, street or nearby park. Working with the client and their dogs in their native environment allows Alain to deal with issues where they occur naturally.

We will teach you how your dog can become a well behaved positive addition to your family !

CLASS POLICIES AND REGULATIONS

Please Read Carefully

Waggz & Whiskerz Pet Services reserves the right to dismiss any student from a class for disruptive or inappropriate behavior. Students who are disruptive or exhibit

inappropriate behavior will be removed from class and NO REFUND OR CREDIT WILL BE ISSUED.

We understand that in many situations some incidents may occur,Please be courteous to the class instructor.During class all students are required to mute or turn off pagers/cell phones and refrain from using text messaging.We will NOT interrupt a student or allow the use of a cell phone during class unless it is an actual emergency.

Collars & Leashes. All dogs must be leashed at the start of class.Flat buckle collars and nylon or leather leashes should be used for classes. Correction collars (choke chains, prong collars, and e-collars), head collars (Haltis or Gentle Leaders), and harnesses should be removed prior to classes, but may be worn during obedience classes. Flexi-Leashes are NOT permitted.

Please walk your dog prior to lessons.You are responsible for cleaning up any accidents,

Be punctual,Please also note that there is no grace period for hourly rentals, and all classes begin promptly,Please be on time.

Private dog training classes must be canceled 24 hours in advance. Late cancellations will be charged the full price.
